A travel photographer holding a camera in a desert with sand dunes, wearing a red shirt and a yellow scarf, during sunset in Merzouga, Morocco.

Rohak Bardalai

Growing up in an immigrant household shaped my values early on. I was going to be an engineer, as my dad wanted. I studied mechanical engineering as the safe option. But while preparing for my first foray into the big world, rummaging through a forgotten storage box I found my first film camera. With that and my Samsung Galaxy S20 I documented my first international solo trip.

These travels gave me wonder. Wanderers are privileged outsiders who find themselves moving among disparate societies, through the crowds or empty streets. What a beautiful thing it is that our hosts accommodate our wandering, and how important it is that we approach everything with curiosity and an open mind

I spent a year and a half shooting exclusively on film, so my roots are very analog. But photographer is less about the tool and more about the user. And I offer you my vision and excitement for what may next enter my lens.
